(94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Syrah) The 2002 Optima Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized by a wonderful forward, rich nose with generous bright fruit and deep, concentrated, multi-layered aromas of black cherry and blueberry, with hints of currant and cocoa powder. Elements of sweet oak and vanilla carefully comple- ment the ripe fruit flavors and the round, rich middle. Supple, yet with a weighty, very fruity mouth-feel and a moderately tannic finish. 2004 HOLLOWAY Mountain Cuvee Red Hills Cabernet Sauvignon I retried the wine yesterday, and it has opened up nicely exhibiting an extremely dark ruby color, gorgeous aromatics enhanced by the 2% Cabernet Franc leading with aromas of black currant, violets, minerals, and mocha. On the palate the wine has a serious structure and luscious mouth-feel with dusty, fine-grained tannins that are reminiscent of Cabernets from the Rutherford region in Napa Valley, and lead to a long, extended finish. 200 cases produced.
